Giving is also for you
Do you happen to know that giving is not only for the recipient but also for you? It has a greater positive impact on you than you thought. First, giving makes you feel happy. A study by Michael Norton, a professor at Harvard Business School, found that giving money to others makes you feel happier than spending it for yourself. It was a contrary result to the general expectation that spending money for yourself would make you happier. However, other scientists also believed that altruistic behavior releases endorphins in the brain and produces a positive feeling which is called “helper's high."
Secondly, giving is good for your health. Rachel Piferi's 2006 study at Johns Hopkins University found that people who help others have lower blood pressure than people who don't. Giving improves physical health by helping to release your stress. Community HousingWorks (CHW) was founded in 1988 with a belief that opportunities begin in a stable home. We provide an affordable place for working families and seniors. We currently have over 3,600 apartments in 42 communities. We are serving more than 9,000 working families, children and seniors, and we also offer financial education and scholarship programs to give them fundamental solutions. We have been recognized nationwide for excellence in development with over 30 years of effort. We have received three national American Institute of Architects Awards and two national Fannie Mae Maxwell Awards and been recognized in Time, The Washington Post, Business Week.
