June 11, 2005 NeighborWorks week Facelift event

City Heights District, San Diego
FaceLift is a spruce-up-a-block-in-a-day event that is accomplished through the help of community volunteers, neighborhood associations, and local business leaders. Each year, the locally-based FaceLift Committee selects a one block radius in the City Heights area to receive a makeover during our one-day event held in June. FaceLift gives priority to senior citizens, disabled persons and low-income families that need assistance to make improvements to their homes.
This year’s FaceLift gathered hundreds of volunteers and painted 13 homes on 44th Street between Dwight and Myrtle in City Heights. We provided additional improvements such as minor landscaping, removal of debris and the planting of flowers and trees. Our ten previous FaceLift days have mobilized over 3,400 volunteers to paint 293 homes and haul away over 300 tons of trash in City Heights communities since 1995!
Testimonial
“During FaceLift there was a little girl, about 8 years-old, helping her mother plant new, pretty flowers. The mother was teaching her daughter how to help other people who need help in the world. That was me! My family! My father is 84 years-old and has lived in City Heights since 1992. FaceLift made a difference in my life and in my Dad’s house. Thank you.”
