DreamBuilder 2009 was a GREAT success!
Held this year at the Joe & Vi Jacob’s Center in San Diego, this beautiful, new multi-cultural center proved to be the perfect location for Community HousingWorks to celebrate the gifts of education and opportunity made possible to so many people by our generous partners and supporters.
This year DreamBuilder included the awarding of our VALOR Scholarships to eight hard working students who are moving up in the world through education. This program rewards students who live in our housing and work towards going to college or vocational school. For more information about how you can support this important program, contact K. J. CHW also recognized the City of Poway with our Community DreamBuilder Award for their visioning for and leadership in the development of affordable housing in our communities. CHW owns six properties in the City of Poway and recognizes the city for its commitment to providing all its citizens housing.
Our distinguished Board Director, Mr. Al Graff, received our DreamBuilder Award for Service for his many years of service on the Community HousingWorks Board of Directors. Mr. Graff has worked tirelessly to increase the number of Learning Centers we are able to operate and staff at our properties. He has set a goal to have a full time staff coordinator for every CHW Learning Center!
A special Thank You to Paola Hernandez of Chanel 10 News and Azteca America for donating her time to be our Mistress of Ceremonies, to Alice Jacobson, former Board Member, for Chairing the DreamBuilder Event Committee, part of the CHW Board Development Committee, and to donor Dr. Peter Spain, a for donating the Vacation Raffle prize.
Community HousingWorks solutes the commitment made by its dedicated Board of Directors for their effort to make DreamBuilder 2009 a resounding success again this year. This hard working and committed Board energize the work we do to provide clean and beautiful housing that is affordable to San Diego’s working families so they may move up in the world!
All proceeds from this year’s event will support our Learning Center programs which include the VALOR Scholarship Program and the After School Program which serves over 1000 students each year.
